Boulder Community

Boulder CO Real Estate

Below The Flatirons
Nestled against the face of the Rocky Mountains, twenty-five miles northwest of Denver, Boulder is a unique community of people whose name has become synonymous with excellence, thoughtful planning, concern for the environment and respect for the opinion of individual citizens. Boulder, Colorado is a mixture of historic, well preserved buildings, including one of only three year-round Chautauquas in the country, vibrant retail and commercial businesses and numerous art galleries. The city has over 300 restaurants and entertainment establishments, walking/biking paths and unsurpassed beauty. Boulder's citizens are well educated, informed on local and world issues and "just plain friendly."

A Little Bit Higher...
Boulder's altitude is 5363 feet, a little higher than Denver, noted as the "Mile High City". The city offers an eclectic life style appealing to a wide variety of people from the most physically active to those seeking culture, higher education and even solitude. Boulder is home to the annual Bolder Boulder 10K race and the Boulder Creek Festival on Memorial Day weekend, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival each summer, the Boulder County Farmer's Market (held throughout the spring, summer, and fall months, every Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday) and numerous other sports and cultural activities. The city sits in the shadows of the magnificent Flatirons, surrounded by 30,000 acres of open space, in addition to plenty of urban parks, two public outdoor pools, a reservoir for boating and swimming and a city-owned golf course.

Frontier History
The Boulder area was originally home to the Arapaho and Southern Ute Indian tribes who found it to be a "magical place" and entrance to the "plenty" found in the foothills of the mountains. Abundant game, water, fertile lands and rugged scenery still exist today. The area had various influences and was territory claimed by Spain from 1494 to 1800; by France from 1800 to 1803; and then the United States as the result of the Louisiana Purchase.

Strong, Growing Industries
Boulder is now Colorado's eighth largest city with a population of approximately
103,000 residents. The city is situated at the end of a "technology corridor" that stretches along U.S. Highway 36 from Denver. The dynamic economy is anchored by strong computer, aerospace, and several federal science labs, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  Apart from the high tech & scientific research sectors, the University of Colorado is the largest employer in the city of Boulder.
