It’s a great time to be a first time homebuyer.   First time buyers may qualify for a $8000 tax credit (maximum amount).   First time home buyers are those that have not owned a home in the last 3 years. The credit is available for homes purchased on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009. Single taxpayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit.

 A home is an investment. When you rent, your money is gone to your landlord. But when you own your home, you can deduct the cost of your mortgage loan interest from your federal income taxes, and usually from your state taxes saving you money on your taxes. In the first years, the interest you pay will make up most of your monthly payment for most of the years of your mortgage and you can also deduct the property taxes you pay as a homeowner. In addition, the value of your home may go up over the years.   Finally, you'll enjoy having something that's all yours - a home where your own personal style will tell the world who you are.
